Michael Walsh President
Michael Walsh’s journey with FIRST Robotics began in 2002 as a student on Team 101 in Chicago, Illinois. His passion for robotics and dedication to the program continued beyond his graduation, as he took on the role of mentor for Team 101. After moving to Detroit, Michael extended his mentorship to Team 2591, and he currently serves as a mentor for Team 8352 Code Gold.
As a proud member of the Michigan Engineering Zone, Michael has witnessed firsthand the transformative impact that robotics can have on students’ lives. His commitment to fostering innovation and inspiring the next generation of engineers is evident in his ongoing efforts to support and guide young minds in Detroit.
Michael’s vision for the future of robotics in Detroit is driven by his belief in the power of technology to change lives. He is dedicated to helping students discover their potential, develop critical skills, and pursue their dreams in the field of robotics.

Carrie Russell Vice President
Carrie Russell is the Vice President of 313 Robotics responsible for oversight of the distribution of funds from the organization to Detroit robotics teams. Carris is an engineer that worked in the automotive industry for over 15 years before leaving her corporate job to pursue a career in secondary education. As a STEM teacher at Martin Luther King Jr, Senior High School, Carrie is the lead for the MSAT (Math, Science, Applied Technology) pathway at King that seeks to provide students with opportunities to learn more about careers in engineering and computer science. In addition to her teaching responsibilities at King High School, Carrie is the lead coach and mentor for FIRST robotics team 8352, a proud member of the Michigan Engineering Zone (MEZ) in Detroit. Carrie is passionate about providing students in Detroit with top notch educational opportunities and programs in STEM, and has dedicated over 10 years to educating and coaching robotics in the city.

Elyse Walsh Treasurer
Elyse Walsh serves as the dedicated Treasurer for 313 Robotics, bringing her passion for community service to the team. Her journey into the world of robotics began through her husband, Michael Walsh, whose enthusiasm and commitment to FIRST Robotics inspired her to get involved.
Watching Michael mentor and guide young minds ignited a spark in Elyse, leading her to join 313 Robotics. She quickly became an integral part of the organization, ensuring that the financial operations run smoothly and efficiently. Elyse’s meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills have been invaluable in supporting the team’s goals and initiatives.
Beyond her role as Treasurer, Elyse is a passionate advocate for the transformative power of robotics education. She believes in the potential of robotics to inspire and empower students, helping them develop critical skills and pursue their dreams. Her dedication to the mission of 313 Robotics is evident in her unwavering support and active involvement in the team’s activities.

Theodore (TJ) Hynes Board Member
Theodore (TJ) Hynes is currently the coach of 6096 which he revamped to become the Cobrots. This was after many years of helping out at First in some capacity, including being a founding member of team 2869 when it was called One Small Step (now called the Regal Eagles). TJ is excited to see how and help students learn from participating in robotics no matter the role!

Kaitlyn Liveoak Board Member
Kaitlyn Liveoak is one of the mentors of FRC Team 7196, the Tech Tigers, from Academy of the Americas in Southwest Detroit, as well as several of the FLL and FTC teams out of AoA. She has been involved with FIRST for 13 years, starting as a student at TnT 280 out of Taylor, MI, and has her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Lawrence Technological University in Southfield.
Kaitlyn is a passionate, motivated individual who's excited to help build robotics programs in Detroit and share her knowledge and experience with all of the teams throughout the program and beyond!
